A trendy drink is getting a lot of attention because of its anti-aging properties. It’s nothing new. People have been drinking bone broth for a long time.
According to Kellyann Petrucci, M.S., N.D., “In my clinical experience, bone broth reverses signs of aging better than any powder, pill or serum. And unlike expensive creams and prescription medications, bone broth costs next to nothing.”
Dr. Petrucci points out that bone broth is loaded with collagen, which builds strong skin, protecting against aging and wrinkling. Dietary collagen is potent because it mainlines collagen to your cells. In addition, the gelatin derived from collagen heals your digestive tract, helping to prevent inflammation that leads to aging.
How can you get yourself some broth-o-the-bone? There are three ways that I know of. The first takes the most effort. The second method is a little easier. The third method is easiest, by far!
Make it from scratch with all the ingredients. Hold on tight because this gets complicated!
- 2 carrots
- 2 celery stalks
- 1 medium onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 3.5 lb beef or chicken bones
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- Place the bones in your slow cooker
- Chop your vegetables and toss them in the cooker
- Fill the slow-cooker with water
- Add 1 teaspoon of salt
- Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (helps release nutrients from the bone)
- Cook on low for 48-72 hours
- Strain the broth and put it in jars
- Remove the fat with a spoon and discard
Just throw the bones, water, salt, and ACV in the crockpot and turn it on. Done! It still tastes great and you’re getting all the benefits.
When the bone broth craze got going, companies came up with all kinds of ways to sell it. You can buy it in bottles or cartons, frozen, room temp, powder or liquid. Some of these options are pricey, at $4-5 per serving. Most of the powdered options don’t taste like the real thing. I also question how potent they are. But I found a powdered bone broth that tastes almost like it was made from scratch. It’s delicious! The company is called LonoLife.
Here’s me on video making a cup of delicious bone broth.
I buy my boxes of Lonolife bone broth at Sprouts. It’s about $1.30 per serving. Not a bad price for something so delicious and nutritious!
There you have it. Go make yourself some bone broth and see if it makes you feel younger. I don’t know if it will, but I will tell you this: a cup of bone broth soothes the soul, just like chicken soup. Take a deep breath, feel your mind relaxing, and then sip slowly. You’ll see what I mean!
Are you a bone broth connoisseur? Let me know! I’d love to hear from you.
