An extra thick yoga mat might be a good choice for you if your knees and wrists are uncomfortable when you put weight on them, like in table top or plank positions. The thicker mat alleviates pressure points on hips, hands, knees, and feet. Balancing poses will be harder on the thicker mat. You can step off of the mat for balance exercises if necessary.
