GOOD? BAD? MAYBE.

Reflection

There once was a farmer whose horse galloped away. His concerned neighbor clucked his tongue, “Poor you, what bad luck!” The farmer calmly replied, “Who knows if it is bad or good?”

A whole herd of horses appeared the next day, with the farmer’s horse in the lead. The neighbor beamed, “Oh, how good! Congratulations!” The farmer clamly said, “Who knows if it is good or bad.”

The next week, the son of the farmer broke his leg terribly while riding one of the new horses. “Oh, dear, bad luck now,” the neighbor shook his head. the farmer responded, “Who knows what is good and what is bad.”

Then the army came through, forcing young men to enlist. When they saw the boy’s broken leg they left him on the farm, and marched on to war. The neighbor was back with more congratulations about the good news. The sage farmer said, “Who knows what is good or what is bad.”
